Introduction
Our latest video, “Misadventures in the Bacana,” offers a unique visual and auditory journey. A watercolor painting comes to life through a fusion of art, music, and animation. The setting evokes the charm of an upscale Buenos Aires neighborhood in the early 1900s.
This is the first Argentine tango video animated with artificial intelligence. The music, however, was entirely interpreted and composed by me, Roberto Pugliese.
Main Plot
The story begins in a gallery where a painting is on display. It depicts a couple dancing tango in the streets of a wealthy district, with a guitarist playing nearby and people enjoying coffee at outdoor tables. The image reflects the elegance and spirit of tango life.
Highlights
Painting Exhibition: The camera moves through the gallery, focusing on the artwork while guests observe.
Live Music: A group of musicians begins to perform the track “Misadventures in the Bacana,” adding atmosphere to the event.
Animation: The painting becomes animated by AI, transforming through scenes that highlight tango culture and neighborhood life.
The Duel: The climax is a knife fight between two men—a tribute to early 20th-century Buenos Aires drama.
Criollo Duel in Early 1900s Buenos Aires
Criollo duels, or knife duels, were common in early 20th-century Buenos Aires. They were used to settle disputes of honor between men. These fights often happened in secluded spots and followed a code of conduct, with witnesses present as seconds.
Reasons for duels included insults, personal disagreements, or romantic entanglements. Over time, the criollo duel became a cultural symbol of courage and passion.
Tango, as a storytelling art form, often reflected these social dynamics. Its lyrics and melodies brought these intense scenes to life, embedding the criollo duel in tango’s identity.

Mizapie Studio Art
The original painting featured in this video hangs in my studio, “Mizapie Studio Art,” located in Belmont Bay, Woodbridge, Virginia. This is where I create all my artwork. I welcome you to explore this special place where creativity comes to life.

About the Artist
I’m Roberto Pugliese. I’ve recorded over 200 YouTube videos of Argentine tango on classical guitar, reaching nearly one million views. I was also among the first to create electronic tango tracks, starting in 1992. In addition, I’ve published more than 100 original tango scores for guitar, each accompanied by a reference video.
